March 08, 2016 : WHATSAPP has rolled out an update to its iPhone app with new
customisation options, functionality and tweaks to help users free up some
precious storage.
Facebook-owned WhatsApp has pushed out a new iOS update to the globe's
most successful messaging service.
WhatsApp has rolled out the new version of the app to the Apple App
Store, and there's plenty of new features to make it worth updating.
The cross-platform messenger has included new wallpapers, new message
options, and improvements to video playback.
Android smartphone owners can get the latest updates ahead of their
iPhone counterparts, thanks to this new beta program.
Choose A Photo
WhatsApp has tweaked and improved the design used to browse photos and
videos to send to recipients.
A new Choose From Another App option has been added to the tweaked
photo browser, which lets users pull in snaps from other iOS apps – something
that used to take a few more painful steps.
Google Drive, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive are all supported in the
latest update.
When you open Photo/Video Library, just tap Choose From Another App....
Share Your Documents
WhatsApp now lets you send and receive PDFs.
You can choose PDFs to send from other smartphone apps installed on
your device, including iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft
OneDrive.
New Background
You can now choose from a variety of solid colours for the wallpaper in
your chat window.
Video Playback
WhatsApp now lets iOS users zoom into a video during playback.
Apple added the same functionality in iOS 9.
Saving Your Storage
WhatsApp says they have fixed a number of crashes within the app.
More importantly, the cross-platform messenger says they have solved a
problem that mean the app was using much more storage space on some iPhones.
This new update comes just a week after WhatsApp revealed it will no
longer be supported on a number of popular devices.
From the end of 2016 WhatsApp won't work on Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian
S60, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1.
There's also bad news if you own a Blackberry as WhatsApp will no
longer work on the devices, including BlackBerry 10.
WhatsApp recently turned seven and the firm says that people's use of
mobile devices looked very different from today.
In a statement on their blog, WhatsApp states: "As we look ahead
to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms
the vast majority of people use.
"So, by the end of 2016, we will be ending support for WhatsApp
Messenger on some mobile platforms."
WhatsApp recently confirmed that it now has one billion active users
making it the world's most popular messaging app.
